This quartz travel alarm clock was made by the Spartus Company and was made in the late 30s or early 40s. The hands and green pots next to the numbers are painted with radium-226 luminescent paint. When the radium-226 luminescent paint is exposed to ultraviolet light, they would glow-in-the-dark. People were fascinated by its mysterious glow. Luminescence dial production peaked in the first decade of the twentieth century, when radiation poisoning was not known at that time. This glow-in-the-dark paint was also used on airplane dials and gauges, allowing people to read clocks, gauges, and dials at night with no other lighting needed. During World War II, radium dials and gauges allowed pilots to fly at night without cockpit lights. This helped the pilots to avoid being seen by the enemy. This travel clock is in excellent condition with just a few small scratches on the bottom. It keeps accurate time and everything works. It is powered by one AA battery and comes with a hand stitched leather case.
